B

When I first met Kirk, he could not even focus his eyes, but looked only at the ceiling. Now, He watches as I walk into the room, He talks, sometimes a smile. It’s been a few years, but He has come a long way. He uses His hands and arms to a limited extent, and the day will come when He reaches out and pets a dog. His Mother is UN-relenting in Her love and care, visiting, bringing home-made gifts, loving Her boy, taking him home to be with her on holidays.

I tell You this as a beacon of hope for the others that I see:

Jay’s wife is constantly there, constantly at his side, He sits there, eyes closed, how much he hears, we do not know. His hands clenched into fists, his face completely blank. She talks to him,She laughs, She remembers and tells him of another time~~
I walk in the room with Denny, smile, speak, call Him by name,She speaks up  Jay ! Jay look,it’s Denny ! Pam brought Denny this time She guides His hand over to Denny’s cold wet nose and on to His fur, the hand un-clenches, and He buries His fingers in the fur as the tactile sensations race up His arm.~~
I start talking, telling of my day, mention the fur that is adorning the floor of the hospital room and of the warm weather that is the cause of it ~~I tell them that the term is “blowing coat”~~ You don’t have to tell us about that, We had a _______, She says: once a year, my house looked like I had a carpet on my floors~
Well, I have 4 of these guys, and if you hear aloud scream over to the north of town , it will be me when these 4dogs start blowing coat IN my house !

His eyes remained closed, his hand buried in the fur, but for the first time since he’s been here :
He laughed ! Here-acted, He heard me, He laughed!
