Foster Parents Needed!

We hear all the time how our great members want to help FGPR save the lives of our beautiful dogs. Did you know that sometimes we have to turn dogs away from coming into rescue because we don’t have a place for them to go? Or that we have to keep dogs boarded in kennels for long stretches just to get them to a safe place? Fostering Pyrs is, quite honestly, literally saving a dog’s life.

A foster parent is crucial to the future of our dogs. The foster evaluates the dog’s behavior- does he/she like other dogs? Cats? Thunderstorms? Do they have separation anxiety? Food aggression? As a Pyr owner, you already know what to expect from the breed, their good & bad qualities. Your  evaluation is a gift you can give the future owners about things to expect about their new family member.

Fostering helps your existing pets learn social skills. And you probably already have the space for 1 more. Though we keep our dogs in Foster care for a minimum of 3 weeks, if you are only able to give us a week at a time, that is ok too!! We are in such a desperate need for foster families, we would be happy to accept whatever generous space you can give us!

Fostering is extremely satisfying. Most people are scared off by their thoughts of becoming too attached to the dog & being unable to let it go. The day your foster dog finds his perfect forever home might be a sad one for you, but know that he wouldn’t be where he is without all of your efforts and affection! Once you see how happy the new family is with their new dog, your heart will be overflowing with pride & love.

Imagine if your dog did not have a foster home when they came in to rescue… he or she may not be here right now. PLEASE consider helping us out and saving our gentle giants.

And if you are unable to foster, please let us know what you can to do help…. Transporting, events, home visits, donations of pet supplies… whatever you can do to help, we will gratefully accept. Please email us at rescue@floridapyrs.org to let us know what you would be able to help with!
